Obituary

Eureka- Betty Jean McCanless, 85, of Eureka, IL passed away at 3:49 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at her residence with her family and friend by her side.

She was born on June 10, 1931 in Gridley, IL a daughter of Lester and Alvina Luckert Kent.

Survivors include her three sons, Tim L. McCanless of Peoria, IL; Kent P. McCanless of Eureka; Christopher K. McCanless of Martinsville, IN; one daughter, Raven A. Stirling of Boulder, CO; two grandsons, Morgan Stirling and Michael McCanless; one granddaughter, Kalie McCanless; one sister, Maxine Hoxworth of Centralia, IL; and her cat Fred, whom she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phil McCanless; one brother and two sisters.

Betty worked at the Farm Bureau in Eureka for 7 years. She then worked as a bailiff/deputy for the Woodford County Sheriff's Department for 33 years retiring in 2006.

Betty was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Eureka Chapter since 1956 and also a member of the Eastern Star.

She was a member of the Eureka Presbyterian Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Pastor Rebecca Weltmann will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4-7 pm at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eureka Presbyterian Church or Humane Society. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.argoruestmanharris.com. The family would like to thank mom's care giver and friend, Gleda Burkett for the care she provided their mother, Betty.
