Obituary

Eureka -Crystal L Sancken, 94, of Eureka, Il passed away at 2:45am at the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.

She was born on April 9, 1923 in Fifield, WI a daughter of Chris and Kelsey (Goodale) Yoder. She married Ernest Sancken on August 19, 1948 in Fairbury, IL. He passed away on November 28, 1996.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Susan) Sancken of Mackinaw, IL; Mark (Cathy) Sancken; Scott (Dianne) Sancken of Eureka, IL; five grandchildren, Jill (Rob) Bradford; Zach (Ellen) Sancken; Lindsay (Luuc) Dam; Renata and Reid Sancken; 8 great grandchildren Cade, Olivia, Lila Bradford; Staley, Adelie, Briggs Sancken; Lucy and Liam Dam; one sister, Ida Ferree of Hot Springs Village, AR.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, one twin brother Clark Yoder who passed away at the age of 12, one sister Helen Vercler and one grandchild Luke Sancken.

She graduated from Fifield High School and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. She taught in several one room country schools in WI. She also taught sixth grade in Fairbury prior to her marriage. Crystal later taught for six years in Goodfield, IL.

Crystal was a member of the Eureka Christian Church where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2017. Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She has lived in Eureka since 1963. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, and the Retired Teachers Association. Crystal volunteered at the Eureka Food Pantry. She was an avid Scrabble player and enjoyed painting while at the Apostolic Christian Home. The highlight of her life was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
