George B. Selvey, 86, of Eureka, IL passed away at 6:59 pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born on June 4, 1928 in Eureka, IL a son of Ocie B. and Mary E. Meister Selvey. He married Shirley Miller on March 2, 1946 in Metamora, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Paul Selvey of East Peoria, IL; Kenneth (Diane Kuntz) Selvey of Excelsior Springs, MO; Randy (Peggy Knapp) Selvey of Goodfield, IL; one brother, Gene (Ethel) Selvey of Morton, IL; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Larry; three brothers, and six sisters.
George and his wife owned and operated G & S Sundries, Selvey's Drive In, and Selvey's Dodge Garage. He was a partner with his son Randy at Selvey's Busy Corner Restaurant. He then went on to be a custodian and school bus driver for the Unit 140 School District retiring in 1990.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Metamora, the Eureka Jaycees, and was a volunteer firefighter for Eureka.
George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed being outdoors where he could look for mushrooms. He was a caring devoted family man and especially proud of his four sons.
He was a member of the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Eureka where funeral mass will be held at
11:00 am on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Fr. Eugene Radosevich will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 at the church before services. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is assisting the family with arrangements.
