Eureka- Jaclyn "Jackie" Spence 88 of Eureka, Illinois formerly of Ohio, passed away and moved on to her new residence in Heaven on Sunday, October 2, 2016.
She was born June 24, 1928 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Chester and Lucille Baughman. She married Harold Spence, Jr on September 23, 1950.
She is survived by her husband Harold, and four children Harold "Hal" Spence, III (Linda), Beth Brush (Dave), Jeff Spence (Melanie) and Rev Molly Spence-Hawk. She has 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Abbie) Baughman of FL; and Jarrell (Terry) Baughman of NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Courtney Hunter. Jackie was a graduate of Ohio State University with a BSW. She worked in an orphanage finding placement for children. She also worked in the tax assessor's office in Woodford County. Then in 1984 she graduated from Kaskaskia College with her RN. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital of Centralia on the Psychiatric Unit and Sunnydale Acres of Vandalia as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
She was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church where she held various offices and was a member of UMW, PEO, Illinois Prairieland Walk to Emmaus where she held many positions and had many speaking engagements. Jackie has been a spiritual mentor to many women throughout her life.
A time of celebration with family members will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Eureka United Methodist Church. At 11:00 am A Joyous Affirmation of the Life and Ministry of Jaclyn "Jackie" Spence memorial will take place followed by a meal in the fellowship hall for all family and friends. The Rev Paul Wier will officiate.
