Ruby Ulrich, 94, of Eureka, died at 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Advocate Eureka Hospital.
She was born April 26, 1922 in Shickley, NE to Henry and Lydia (Birky) Reeb. She married
Kenneth Ulrich on June 22, 1950 in Hopedale, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is 2 sons, Rollin (Velma) Ulrich of Goshen, IN, Steven (Naomi) Ulrich of Eureka; 1 daughter Debra (Rollin) Handrich of Goshen, IN; 2 sisters, her twin Ruth (Jim) Ulrich of Eureka and LaVerda McMakin of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 son Keith, 1 brother Ervin Reeb and one sister Marian Nofsinger.
Ruby was educated in Southeastern Nebraska and later moved to Illinois with her parents in 1938. While in Nebraska, she lived through the 7 year dust bowl. She was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed her garden, flowers, friendships with her neighbors and most of all, her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a volunteer for MCC Et Cetera Thrift shop, Mennonite Heritage Center and18 years for Meals on Wheels.
Ruby was a dedicated Christian and a member of Roanoke Mennonite Church where she was involved in many of the church activities.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Roanoke Mennonite Church. Pastor Bryan Miller and Chaplain Doane Brubaker will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Roanoke Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Cremation has been accorded. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Burial of her cremains will be in Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roanoke Mennonite Church, Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery, or Illinois Mennonite Heritage Center.
