Betty Parsons

January 28, 1935 — October 6, 2017

Eureka- Betty Lou (Botner) Parsons, 82, of Eureka, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 12:08 a.m., early Friday morning, on October 6, 2017. She was surrounded by all three of her loving children.

Betty was born on January 28, 1935 in Pineville, KY, and grew up in southern Indiana. She attended Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, IL, where she met her husband-to-be and the love-of-her-life, Wendell (Wendy) R. Parsons, who passed away almost eight months earlier, on February 19, 2017. On August 17, 2016, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Preceded in death was her best friend, her husband, Wendy; her loving mother, Louise B. French; her stepfather, Robert L. French; her brother, Jerry L. Botner; and her 10-year old grandson, Joshua M. Parsons.

Betty is survived by her sons, Michael L. Parsons (Eureka) and Monte L. Parsons (St. Louis), and a daughter, Wendy Jo (Parsons) Melton (Denver, NC). She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Brittany, Chance, Andrew, Benjamin, Luke and Elizabeth Grace, and one great-grandson, Keegan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Betty and Wendy lived in the Sterling, IL area for 27 years, where she worked several jobs, mostly secretarial; but her favorite profession was being a stay-at-home mother. She was an avid supporter of her husband and very active in her church. Betty loved to teach Sunday school and did so for many years.

However, the most important thing in Betty's life was her faith. She met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when she was just 16 years old, and openly shared her testimony with anyone and everyone she met. Her favorite song was "I'd Rather Have Jesus". Her favorite Bible verse was 1 Peter 1:8 - "Though you have not seen Him (Jesus), you love Him. Thou you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory."

A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Liberty Bible Church in Eureka. Dr. Walter "Woody" Webb will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday night at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery.

A shining light - with a smile that always brightened a room - Betty was loved by everyone. She will be missed...but certainly not forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) or Samaritan's Purse.
