Bruce L. Cornwell, 80, of Deer Creek, passed away at 10 A.M., Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Normal.
He was born December 11, 1934 in Deer Creek to Loran and Frances (Denman) Cornwell. He married Sharon Whitmore on September 1, 1963 in Pontiac.
Surviving are his two daughters Shawna (Jim) Lake of Cary, IL; Heather Hibler of Danvers, IL; one brother Jim (Rhea) Cornwell of Mackinaw, IL; two sisters Carole (Larry) Lieving of Sarasota, FL; Susan (Dennis) Langwith of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren Kendall, Garrett, Davis, Ashton and Brooke; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Rodney and Sandra Cornwell.
Bruce worked his entire life as a grain and livestock farmer and was a member of the Illinois and Woodford County Farm Bureaus. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan and later became a Deer Creek volunteer firefighter for many years. He was a member of Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club and was an advocate for the preservation of wildlife.
Bruce was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon and a member of the choir. He had a love for music and enjoyed singing at many area events. He also enjoyed attending operas and symphony orchestra concerts. His true love was his family. He always put his family and friends first. He was kind, caring and never knew a stranger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Deer Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Evans will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Deer Creek.
