Charlotte Noe
Eureka - Charlotte Noe, 99, of Eureka, IL passed away at 5:30 am on Saturday, June 3, 2017 the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
She was born on June 8, 1917 in Lewistown, IL to Bruce and Mildred Drake O'Brien. She married Clarence Noe on August 16, 1941 in Bryant, IL. He passed away on November 16, 1990 in Eureka.
Surviving is one daughter, Carolyn Clark; four grandchildren, Emily Unterreiner, Mary Noe, Andrew and David Clark, and two great grandsons, Jonah and Arlo Unterreiner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, one brother, James, one sister, Mara Lee James, and her son, Michael.
Charlotte graduated from Lewistown High School and later attended and earned a BA degree from Eureka College with additional studies at Northwestern and Western Universities. She was an elementary school teacher in Fulton County, Eureka Davenport School, Eureka Middle School and Goodfield Elementary School.
She was a member of the Eureka Christian Church and had served as Elder Chairman, Vice President of the Church Board, chairman of the Outreach and Worship Committee, President of Christian Women's Fellowship, and Co-chair with her husband in leading the church in the Shalom Program working for Peace and Justice.
In the Illinois-Wisconsin Region of the Christian Church she was Women's Work liaison of the Illinois Valley Cluster of Churches and also a member of their planning committee and speaker for the National Quadrennial Assembly. She was a member of the Peace and Fellowship of the Christian Church, member of the Council of Christian Unity of the Christian Church and member of the Peoria Peace Network.
While at Eureka College, she joined Delta Zeta Sorority and numerous college organizations. Later, she became a member of the Eureka College Alumni Board and Board of Trustees of Eureka College. She was recognized with the College Award of Merit.
Community activities included being a leader of the Boy Scouts club, a member of the Eureka College Women's Board, Eureka Hospital Auxiliary, and the Eureka Community Nursery School Board. She volunteered with the United Way and the Walnut Grove Fine Arts Association. She was also involved with the Mother to Mother program, the Eureka Heart House, and Maple Lawn Health Center. She was an honorary member of the Eureka Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
Hosting Eureka College international students and later traveling to nine European countries, Africa, Hawaii and Ireland provided rich insights into their cultures.
Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at the Eureka Christian Church on Sunday June 11th at 2 pm. Jennie Churchman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-2 prior to the service at the church. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
