Doris June (Thewlis) Howard, 85, of Peoria, died on September 15, 2022, at River Crossing in East Peoria after a long-term illness. She was born in Peoria, IL on July 9, 1937 to Robert and Helen (Stannard) Thewlis.
Doris is survived by her sister, Barbara Thewlis Robbins of Peoria, IL, her nephew Scott Robbins of Peoria, her niece the Rev. Dr. Penny (Kelly Sindt) Robbins of Madison, WI., and her beloved cat, Beau.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, Helen (Stannard) Thewlis and father, Robert Thewlis. Doris enjoyed a few close friendships that spanned her lifetime.
She was an administrative assistant for Caterpillar for 30+ years, before retiring. Doris graduated from Washington High School in Washington, IL and attended Western Illinois University. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting, singing, and writing, especially poetry, shopping, and taking adult education courses. Doris volunteered a few times for various charities, and she was an active member of the Belles of Harmony singing group. She had been baptized in the Christian Church in Washington and attended the First United Methodist Church in Peoria throughout the years.
Doris will have a private graveside service at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka, IL, and be buried alongside her mother and father. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
