Eureka - William "Gary" Edwards, 68, of Eureka, IL passed away at 8:30 am on Friday December 28, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on February 1, 1950 in Memphis, TN to William Douglas and Doris Marie Gammill Edwards. He married Wanda Kupferschmid on September 7, 1969 in Roanoke, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Renae Dietrich of Washington; Nikie (Phil) Hodel of Goodfield; Karie (Jason) Hospelhorn of Carlock; his mother Marie Edwards of Eureka; 10 grandchildren, Hannah (Luke) Anliker; Logan (Keirstyn) Dietrich; Landon Dietrich; Lakin Dietrich; Danielle (Brett Onnen) Hodel; Josie (Derek) Tallyn; Payton Hodel; Jordan (McKenzie) Rieke; Jaxon Rieke; Jaden Rieke; one great granddaughter, Brenley Dietrich; and one on the way; one sister, Linda (Robert) Cook of Eureka; and one brother, Larry (Janet) Edwards of Kappa.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Nona and Sandra Edwards.
Gary proudly served his country and was a veteran of the United States Air Force National Guard. He volunteered on the Eureka Fire Department for 20 years, some of those years serving as fire chief.
Gary was a dedicated maintenance worker and mechanic. He worked at AO Smith Harvestor, DMI, and Earlybird. He semi - retired in 2015 and enjoyed going back during harvest to help out.
Gary loved to tinker and work on engines all of his life. He was attracted to anything with an engine from his boats to his cars to his motorcycles. He enjoyed fishing, trap shooting, wood working and having coffee at Hardee's. Most of all though, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren's events and taking care of his dear wife, Wanda who resides at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
Gary attended the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday December 31, 2018. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-3 pm at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall in Goodfield and from 9-9:45 am on Monday prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Roanoke.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heiterland at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
