Growing up in Dix, she learned how to work at an early age sorting potatoes and stocking shelves at the family's general store. She enjoyed a happy life attending grade school and church events with her many friends during the late Depression and 1940's war years. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1949.

After marriage, she worked as a secretary until the children arrived. She cared for them until the youngest went to school then began her 29-year career at Eureka College, first as a part-time secretary, then Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Treasurer. In the seventies, she decided to get a business degree at the college while continuing to work full-time. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1980 and retired from the college in 1995.

Genevia loved people and events that brought people together. Favorite events were her bi-weekly bridge club gatherings, meetings of the Eureka Rotary Club where she was the first woman inducted into District 6490, the East Central Illinois District, and helping with church and civic events. Travel was also a great pleasure and she had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and numerous countries around the world.

Her main love was her family to whom she was totally devoted. Family gatherings were always a joy for her. In later years, she was overjoyed to welcome adopted grandchildren into the family. Having them visit was always the highlight of the day. Genevia was a five-star wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
