EUREKA - Joanie Rotes Johann of Eureka, IL, passed away peacefully from a non-Covid19 illness on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at The Loft in Eureka. She was born on June 21, 1934, to Jack and Thelma (Montgomery) Rotes in Medina, Ohio. She was a 1952 graduate of Peoria Central High School, and she attended Eureka College, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and Phi Omega sorority.
She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Johann, Sr., in Eureka in 1954. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister Joyce and her parents. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Ridlbauer of Jacksonville, AL, and 8 nieces and nephews.
Joanie is also survived by her children, Becki Nunnally, of Zionsville, IN; Peg (John) Sauder, of Carmel, IN; Liz (Dave) Rebmann, of Tremont, IL; Chip Johann, of Morton, IL; Bob (Lisa) Johann, Jr., of Washington, IL; and foster daughter Laura Butler-Stein of Sanford, NC. She had 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Joanie was a homemaker who loved holidays. She also worked in the lunchroom at Davenport Grade School and at Apostolic Christian LifePoints for 17 years. She was a member of Eureka Christian Church, and she enjoyed her memberships in CWF, DAR, 4-G, PEO, and Eastern Star. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past alum advisor for many years of the Phi Omega sorority at Eureka College. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and for the Woodford County Republican Headquarters. Joanie's family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their kind care.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at 1:00 pm in the Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka. The service will be available to the public via livestream and afterwards on the Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home Facebook page. All are welcome and social distancing will be observed. Her family requests that memorials be sent to Eureka College or Apostolic Christian LifePoints.
