Leroy Thomas

EUREKA- Harroll "Leroy" Thomas, 84, of Eureka, passed away at 3:35 AM on Saturday July 11, 2015, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 14, 2015 at 11 AM at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka with Pastor Joe Gardner officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home and burial will be in Olio Twp. Cemetery, Eureka.

He was born in Ware, IL on April 5, 1931, a son of the late John R. and Mary E. Walker Thomas. He married Delores Aaron in Osceola, AR on April 10, 1948. She Survives.
Also Surviving are his daughters, Jan (Jack) Dall, Eureka, Cathy ( Mark) Sanken, Eureka, JoAnne( Eric Ockerhausen) Thomas, Silver City, NM, Sandi (Tim) Sylvester, Eureka; grandchildren, Jill, Zach, Katie, Emma; great-grandchildren, Cade, Olivia, Lila, Staley, Adelie, Briggs; and a sister, Mary Heinz, Charleston, SC.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother Gene, and a sister Bessie.

Leroy and Dee came to Eureka in 1948 where he worked at Libby's Canning Factory and Eureka College before he started work at CILCO in 1959. Leroy retired as a lineman from CILCO in 1989. He was a Founding Father of the First Baptist Church in Washington serving as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent/Teacher and Treasurer. He served as past president of Olio Twp Cemetery in Eureka.

Leroy was a loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. His greatest joy in life was his faith and his family. He touched many lives with his gentle manner and kindness. He enjoyed people and had a great sense of humor. One of his favorite sayings to get a smile from someone was if they asked how he was he would reply with "perfect". He was kind hearted and generous especially with his time and talents.

Leroy was an avid deer hunter going to southern Illinois each year to hunt. He also enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing. Leroy especially enjoyed bowling on the men's church team.

The family would like to thank Dr. Miller and the staff of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home for their excellent and loving care. They were all so dear to him from bringing him treats to the nurses who doted on him.
