Lyle Schertz

December 3, 1922 — July 23, 2015

Lyle Henry Schertz, 92, of Eureka, passed away at 5:12 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.

He was born December 3, 1922 in Roanoke, IL to Lester and Edna Elizabeth Evey Schertz. He married Vera V. Killebrew on August 17, 1946 in Washington, IL. She died on September 13, 2007 in Eureka.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his daughter Deborah (Jim) Williams of Bloomington; two sisters Betty Ray of Ames, IA, Grace Gainieany of Lakeland, FL; and 4 nephews.

Lyle was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran serving with the 381st Bombardment Group (Heavy). He was a member of the 381st Bomb Memorial Association and the Masonic Taylor Lodge 98 AF&AM for 62 years. He was a life member of the Peoria Consistory Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Lyle served as Commander of the Mohammed Legion of Honor in 1996.

He enjoyed golfing, camping, and spending time with his wife in their Florida home. Many people knew him from his walks around Eureka.

Lyle worked for Caterpillar as a Pipefitter retiring in 1982 after 41 years of service.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Christian Union Church of Metamora. Rev. Gary Salm will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Olio Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka for the compassion, care, and love the showed to Lyle.
