Martha "Marty" Eckert

Martha J. “Marty” Eckert, 83, of Eureka, IL passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
She was born on May 25, 1937 in South Bend, IN a daughter of Rudolph and Mary Poropat and was raised in
Chicago. She married Thomas J. Eckert on January 24, 1959 in Chicago, IL. He survives.
Surviving also include her children, Nancy (Terry Brown) Eckert Martin of Springfield, IL; Greg (Margie) Eckert of Columbus, OH; Karen (Mike) McGlaughlin of Washington, IL; Michael (Darla) Eckert of Henry, IL;  Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren who meant the world to her; and her sister, Ruth (Ken Cameron) M. Mellott of Willow Springs, IL.
She  was preceded in death by her parents.
Martha was a teacher at Eureka Middle and High Schools for twenty eight years, and thoroughly loved teaching.
Over the years she volunteered at Advocate Eureka Hospital; was on the Guilds and Parish Councils of St. Patrick's Church in Washington, IL and St. Luke's Church in Eureka, IL; she served on various Boards including Walnut Grove Fine Arts Assoc., Heart Fund, Eureka Junior Women's Club, Eureka Women's Club, AAUW, Tazewell/Woodford County Youth Advisory Board, Eureka College Teacher Advisory Board, Eureka Library and many others.
Martha was a eucharistic minister and member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Eureka where a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m.  on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Social distancing guidelines will be observed at the funeral mass. Father Eugene Radosevich will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Masks will be required at the visitation on Friday. Rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday before the visitation at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral mass and burial will be at a later date in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke’s Catholic Church or OSF Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.argoruestmanharris.com.
