Maxine Virkler

February 5, 1925 — January 9, 2021

Maxine Delores Freidinger Virkler, 95, of Eureka, formerly of Bay City, Michigan, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka, Illinois. The daughter of the late Edward and Minnie (Frank) Freidinger, she was born on February 5, 1925, in Bay City and married Andrew "Andy" Virkler on May 3, 1952.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four sons: Dennis (Gayle), Stan (Beth), Kim (Ginger), Andrew II and her daughter, Cynthia; 11 grandchildren: Paul, Nathan, Ben, Joel, Jonathan, Rachel, David, Ruth, Elizabeth, Timothy, and Mary; 30 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one sister in-law Eleanor (Frank) Virkler of New York. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Delema (Elmer) Steffen and Audrey (Leonard) Hitz; and one infant grandaughter, Suzanna Joy Virkler.
The greatest event in Maxine's life was when she and Andy realized their need for a Saviour and surrendered their lives to their Lord in August 1953. She was a loving and supportive wife during his Naval service in the Mediterranean during the first year of their marriage, as bookkeeper for their business, Freidinger Builders, which they took over from Maxine's father in 1963, and as his faithful helpmate during his service to the Apostolic Christian Church in Bay City, Michigan as minister and elder. Maxine had a passion for flowers, gardening, and spending time at the family cottage in Linwood, Michigan. She enjoyed raising and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than when the entire family was together.
Maxine was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Bay City and more recently of the Apostolic Christian Church in Congerville where a funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, January 14, 2021 with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service: 9 am until 9:45 am. Masks and social distancing are required. A private family burial will be at the Goodfield-Congerville Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Congerville. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is handling the arrangements.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka where she received excellent care for the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka or Apostolic Christian LifePoints in Morton, IL.
