Ruth Luella Ulrich, 98, of Eureka passed into the arms of Jesus with family surrounding her bedside at her home in Eureka.
Ruth Luella Reeb was born on April 26, 1922 in Shickley, Nebraska to Henry and Lydia Birky Reeb. During the years of the Dust Bowl, her family came to central Illinois to find work. Ruth came to the Eureka area to work for a local family which lead her to meet the love of her life Clayton “Jim” Ulrich. They were married on December 4, 1941 and began life together on the family farm. Ruth helped with all the farm activities while raising their 3 children, Mike, Bob, and Peggy.
They moved from farm life in 1967 to their newly built home on South Hilldale in Eureka. Later in life they moved to a cottage at Maple Lawn to enjoy the rest of their years together.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 79 years, Clayton “Jim” Ulrich; one daughter Peggy (Norm) LaFary of Englewood, Florida; one sister, LaVerda “Birdie” McMakin of Springfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters with one as her twin, two sons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
Ruth was a member of Roanoke Mennonite Church for 71 years. Her faith was her fortress. She loved her Lord and shared that love with everyone. She demonstrated her strong faith in the many ways she loved, served, and cared for her family and others. She was committed to many church activities like Sunday School, Bible School, and WMSC. She worked at Maple Lawn Homes as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 14 years. After she retired from there, she managed the Quilt Room at Maple Lawn for the next 20 years. Since Ruth was an excellent seamstress, she was given the Rose Award two times for her dedication and meticulous work in quilting. She belonged to the Maple Lawn Auxillary and the Etc. Shop board. Ruth always had plenty of time to attend her grandchildren’s activities and enjoy the great grandchildren as the family grew.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery. Pastor Bryan Miller and her grandson Robert Myers will officiate. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is handling arrangements for the family.
